About KSM

KSM GmbH is a successful independent label that specializes in the production and marketing of films and television programs in the Home Entertainment market, primarily in the field of DVD rentals and sell-through.

The company primarily operates with self-purchased licenses but has also incorporated external products in its portfolio due to its own channel of distribution.

Moreover, KSM itself produces special interest documentaries and fitness productions which are exploited on DVD and Blu-ray disc.

Founded as KSM - Krause Schneider Multimedia - on October 11, 2002 and transformed into a limited liability company in 2005, the company registered in Hochheim meanwhile has 20 employees. The management board consists of Benjamin Krause.

Within a short time KSM managed to expand its portfolio to movies and series stemming from the most varied genres. Currently KSM is distributing approximately 600 movies.

Increasingly more top notch films are being acquired, such as "The Warlords" starring Jet Li, "Max Schmeling" starring Henry Maske, "Shinjuku Incident" ("Jackie Chan: Hong Kong Dangerous"), and "Little Big Soldier" (both starring Jackie Chan), just to name a few.

KSM is still focusing on first-class film adaptations of literature, the marketing of these in the Home Video sector was mainly distinguished by KSM. The film adaptations based on world famous novels by Jane Austen and Elisabeth Gaskell, such as "Pride & Prejudice", "Persuasion", "Cranford", or "North and South" are exploited in the top-price segment on a long-term basis. KSM has also meanwhile managed to acquire a small Charles Dickens collection including the titles "Little Dorrit", "Oliver Twist", and "David Copperfield".

In the field of family entertainment as well KSM is focusing on a best-selling portfolio. Well-known animation film series, such as "Mila" and "Little Princess Sarah", cartoon series such as "Grisu, the Little Dragon", "Mr. Rossi Looks for Happiness", and of course also "He-Man", "She-Ra", and "Lady Oscar" are highly popular among large fan groups. KSM has positioned itself well in this genre.

Several highly popular series, either current or from the 1970s and 1980s, also deserve mentioning for their provision with successful TV-entertainment. For instance KSM managed to acquire the prime time series "Life on Mars", "Doctor Who", "Centennial", and "The Onedin Line" to date.

Moreover, KSM is also renowned for its feature film series which in each case contain movies with feature film run-times. Amongst others these are "Miss Marple", "Sharpe's Challenge", and "Captain Hornblower".

KSM's own productions "Dolphins in the Deep Blue Ocean" as well as a multi-part fitness edition series with the fitness professional Johanna Fellner have been highly successful. In the future KSM will also increasingly focus on its own productions.

KSM as well sees its future in new formats. Increasingly more titles are also released on Blu-ray Discs alongside DVD releases, such as "The Warlords", "Jackie Chan: Shinjuku Incident", "Kill Theory", "Midnight Chronicles" and "Babysitter Wanted."

KSM currently holds a market share (sell through sector) of about 1,5% in the year 2010 (2009 1 %) in Germany and belongs to the 10 largest independents in Germany. In the rental sector KSM was able to raise its market share of 0,50% in the year 2009 to currently 1,64% in 2010.
The total revenue in the year 2009 could be increased 20% in comparison to 2008.
2010 looks even better, in the first quarter 2010 KSM was able to increase its revenues 55% in comparison to the first quarter 2009.
Within the next few years KSM will produce its first feature film as it was able to acquire the film rights of the brand "The Dark Eye."
